One major language through the work of the missionaries gave birth to the Bauan Language, even though there are several dialects across the island group.
William Cross and David Cargill were involved in the writing and the production of the first written language of the Fijians, in Nukualofa, Tonga in May 1835.

Fijian calendar-vula vakaviti
Fijians usually use the Lunar calendar. They are guided by the position of the moon, linking up with the flora and Fauna of the land. This is the basis of their resource conservation, and to prepare for the season and famine. The year begins in June and ends in the following June.
